Early Morning Shooting on Charles St. Sends Two to Hospital

On Sunday morning at 4:52am, officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Charles Street on a reported shooting. When they got on scene the officers located 28 year-old Corey Bernard Crouch slumped over in the driver’s seat of a 2014 Toyota Camry. Crouch was found to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Baptist Medical Center. According to authorities Crouch’s condition is reported to be grave.

Shortly after 6:00am, 22 year-old Cary Dewayne Crowder arrived at a hospital in Greensboro seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. Authorities with the Greensboro PD worked in conjunction with the WSPD in Winston-Salem to determine that Crowder’s injuries were related to the incident that occurred on Charles Street.

Authorities have charged Crowder with “Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with the Intent to Kill and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The weapon charge is based on a September 08, 2009 conviction for Felonious Assault on a Government Official. Mr. Crowder remains hospitalized in Greensboro in stable condition.
