On June 1, 2015, Detectives with the WSPD began investigating a report of a Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School employee, Lloyd “Derrele” Mitchell, having been involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student.  Police Detectives discovered that Mr. Mitchell had engaged in sexual intercourse during the 2012 school year with a female student. Mr. Mitchell was a teacher and a coach at R.J. Reynolds High School during that time. The female was also a student at R.J. Reynolds High School at that time. The sexual relationship resulted in the student becoming pregnant by Mr. Mitchell.

Mitchell, who is 32 years old, had  been a teacher’s assistant in the media department at West Forsyth, as well the boys varsity basketball coach there. He had resigned as coach on Friday. Mitchell had been suspended without pay earlier last week pending this investigation.

Warrants for Mr. Mitchell’s arrest were issued for one count of Sexual Offense with a Student and one count of Indecent Liberties with a Student. On June 17, 2015, Mr. Mitchell turned himself to Winston-Salem Detectives. Mr. Mitchell was given a $25,000.00 unsecured bond and a court date of July 2, 2015.
