The following information was provided by the City of Winston-Salem
Vehicle traffic through downtown Winston-Salem and around the Winston-Salem State University campus will be affected by two parades and the WSSU homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Winston-Salem State will hold its Homecoming Parade at 10 a.m., starting at Research Parkway and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The parade will travel east on MLK to the Winston-Salem State campus, concluding at the Cromartie Drive campus entrance.
To accommodate the parade, the U.S 52 and Business 40 entrance and exit ramps for Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be closed from 9:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Signs will be posted to direct vehicles to alternate exits. Those attending the homecoming game at Bowman Gray Stadium should take the exit for Rams Drive (Exit 108C) on U.S. 52. (Note: U.S. 52 exit signs still identify this exit as “Stadium Drive.”)
Signs will be posted to assist motorists in getting into and out of stadium-area parking lots, and staff will assist in directing traffic. Game patrons should allow sufficient time for travel.
Pride Winston-Salem will hold its annual Pride WS Parade, starting at 11 a.m. at Fourth and Poplar streets. The parade will travel east on Fourth Street, turn north on Trade Street, west on Fifth Street, and north on Cherry Street, concluding at Sixth and Cherry.
Given the close timing of the two parades, the city and university will be using social media to help parade-goers get to the right parade. Maps are posted online. Use #WSSUHomecoming or #PrideWS.
Maps of each parade route are provided below.
