FLASH:
In a press release sent out to media Tuesday Gov. Beverly Perdue says her administration will be moving $1 million to prevent about 1,400 mentally ill residents of North Carolina group homes from becoming homeless because of funding cuts expected after this month.
Perdue cited her authority to change the state budget according to unforeseen circumstances in moving money to keep group home residents in place through the end of January. The Democratic governor says the GOP-led General Assembly and incoming Gov. Pat McCrory can then figure out a long term fix. The release from the Governor’s office did not address why Perdue decided on this short-term band-aid rather than allow a long term fix to be made in a special session of the General Assembly.
