Family and friends of 22 year-old Christopher Reshawn Thompson will come together to honor his life at a memorial service and candlelight walk on Friday beginning at 7:30pm. Christopher Thompson was found on Gilmer Avenue Sunday, March 23. He had been shot. Police are still investigating the homicide at this time.

The walk will begin at 2501 Gilmore Ave then proceed to walk to Greenway Ave. to reconvene for a moment of silence and a call to action. Friends, family and community are invited to bring items such as cards and flowers to enshrine during the memorial tribute. Community leaders have been invited to attend.

Organizer and friend of the Thompson family, Nicole Little, says that the purpose of the event is to ensure Christopher Thompson will be remembered for who he actually was- a caring friend, loving brother, sweet son and a beautiful soul to many. Likewise, organizers of the memorial hope that the event raises awareness of both gun-related homicides in Winston-Salem and the victims of that violence.

UPDATED:

Due to the high probability for rain, the event today has been postponed. Once organizers are able to discuss the situation with the family, the event will be rescheduled.

UPDATED:

According to organizers and family, the memorial and vigil for Christopher has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 30th at 7:30pm.
