Thursday morning around 5:00am a car operated by 56 year-old James Walter Carter turned in front of 55 year-old cyclist James Garder Weathers causing a collision that sent Mr. Weathers to the hospital with serious injuries. Mr. Carter was not injured.
According to the WSPD a preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Carter was at the intersection of Country Club Road and Harpers Street in his 2003 Chevy Impala when he attempted to make a left turn through the intersection onto the “on-ramp” to south bound Silas Creek Parkway and turned directly into the path of James Weathers.
Mr. Carter did not notice Mr. Weathers traveling west bound on Country Club Road and the bicyclist was unable to take an evasive maneuver to avoid the collision. Mr. Weathers collided into the front right of Carter’s Impala.
Mr. Weathers was thrown from his bicycle on impact and Forsyth County EMS had to transport him to NC Baptist Hospital with what are reported to be serious injuries.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to call the Winston-Salem Police Department at 336/773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 336/727-2800.
