Seattle Sounders FC 2 today announced that the Major League Soccer club will hold open tryouts in Winston-Salem on January 28-29 with official youth partner Twin City Youth Soccer Association, as well as in Seattle on February 19-20 at Starfire Sports. After all S2 open tryout events have concluded, a minimum of one player is guaranteed a trial with the club ahead of the Sounders’ second season in the USL.

“We are excited to host an open tryout in North Carolina with Twin City Youth Soccer Association as a piece of our new partnership,” said S2 General Manager Andrew Opatkiewicz. “The talent pool in North Carolina is one of the reasons this partnership was so appealing and we expect a very high level of play at the tryouts in February.”

Players will be assessed by members of the Sounders FC, S2 and Sounders FC Academy technical staff, including Opatkiewicz, S2 Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson and Sounders FC Academy Head Scout Junior Gonzalez. In addition, other approved assessors are overseeing the tryouts, including goalkeeper coaches.

“We know there is a ton of talent in both Seattle and North Carolina and we’re going to be very thorough as we build our roster for the new season,” said S2 Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson. “We’re going to take a hard look at the players who come out for these tryouts and see who can strengthen our squad and possibly develop into a future member of the Sounders.”

Tryouts at all locations are open to male soccer players ages 16 and older, with a registration cost of $100 for each player. The deadline to register for the North Carolina tryout event is January 15, while the Seattle tryout registration closes February 5. Participants who wish to register for either tryout event will also be able to do so in person at the event for $150.

Check-in and registration in North Carolina is set to begin at 2:00pm on Thursday, January 28, with games starting at 3:00pm at BB&T Soccer Park. Select participants will be chosen to compete in a full-sided game on Friday, January 29 at 3:00pm.
