A collaboration between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies has resulted in the arrest of the Winston-Salem leader of the so-called “Detroit Boys” drug trafficking ring along with the seizure of fire arms and heroin as well as $90,000.00 in cash. 54 year-old Terrance Douglas Coles of Woodcliff Dr., a quiet, suburban neighborhood in North West Winston-Salem, was determined to be the local leader of the ring and has been charged with multiple felonies involving the trafficking of narcotics. Several members of this gang were busted in Knoxville, Tennessee in March of 2012.
On October 28, 2013, 366 grams of heroin was intercepted as it arrived in Forsyth County from Detroit, Michigan. Several search warrants were then executed in Winston-Salem and Southfield, MI. resulting in the arrest of Terrance Coles, Rudolph Coles Jr., Terrance Poindexter, Dante Coles and Ian Harper here in Winston-Salem.
Follow-up by DEA agents in Detroit resulted in the seizure of 1.8 kilograms of heroin, approximately $35,000.00 in US currency, and the arrest of 53 year-old Tyrone Vincent Conyers of Southfield, MI. Conyers has been charged in North Carolina with Conspiracy to Traffic Heroin.
The efforts of all agencies throughout this investigation resulted in the seizure of over 2150 grams of heroin, seven firearms, twelve vehicles and approximately $55,000.00 in US currency. To date, 15 people have been charged with a total of 136 felonies and twelve residences have been searched. According to the WSPD the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
The Law enforcement agencies involved with this investigation have included the WSPD, The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the Kernersville Police Department, NC State Bureau of investigation, ATF, DEA, and the NC Department of Revenue.
