A new revolutionary culture emerged in the turbulent 1960s, and the Black Panther Party was at the vanguard. Weaving together a treasure trove of rare footage with the voices of a diverse group of people who were there, Director Stanley Nelson, winner of RiverRun 2015 Master of Cinema Award, tells the vibrant story of a pivotal movement that feels timely all over again.
This special Indie Lens Pop Up preview screening of “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution A community conversation” will be moderated by UNC-TV Senior Producer Deborah Hunt Noel will follow the screening with panelists including:
- Laurens Grant – Producer of The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution
- Larry Little – former leader of the W-S Chapter of The Black Panthers and Associate Professor, WSSU
- Hazel Mack – former leader of the W-S Chapter of The Black Panthers and Regional Managing Attorney, Legal Aid of NC
- Paula McCoy, Executive Director of Neighbors for Better Neighborhoods
- Corey D. B. Walker – Dean of the College, WSSU
- Mona Zahir – Attorney General in the Student Government Association and WSSU alum
